Clinical Mental Health Counseling E-Portfolio
Tyler Thursby

Hi, my name is Tyler and I am a counselor located in Phoenix, AZ.
While prioritizing your mental health can be immensely challenging, you don’t need to face life’s challenges alone therapy exists to support you in finding the necessary balance in your life. I believe the ultimate form of self-care is learning
to mitigate chronic stress through the development of life-long coping skills.
Throughout my program, I’ve gravitated toward modalities including cognitive-behavioral and person-centered therapies. I am inspired by logotherapy, EMDR, and other therapies which focus on addressing trauma.
Traumatic experiences can adversely affect our lives, but they do not entirely define us. My role as a counselor is to act as a guide — helping you identify and remove obstacles that can impede you on your path to personal growth.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. - Carl Rogers

LPC, Gilbert Counselors
I had the opportunity to supervise Mr. Thursby, who was a counselor intern at Gilbert Counselors during June 2022- April 2023.
Mr. Thursby's responsibilities included the following: providing direct counseling services to teens and adults. Tyler appears to establish rapport with his clients of all ages and has developed meaningful treatment goals. He completes his notes and all documentation on time. He is professional and respectful of his clients, colleagues, and admin staff. He is aware of when boundaries need to be established with clients and seeks supervision appropriately.
I think he would be a valuable member of any clinical team that he chooses to join..

It is without hesitation that Tyler has been one of the most motivated, empathic, and hard-working volunteers
that I have worked with. Furthermore, Tyler demonstrates immense attention to detail and his ideas are consistently well thought-out.
Through my interactions with Tyler, he has shown various interpersonal relationship skills. For example, Tyler demonstrates the ability to relate to others, and he has a natural gift of building rapport with those around him. Tyler is highly articulate by presenting excellent written and verbal communication skills. Tyler continues to impress me with his performance, dedication, and seemingly endless enthusiasm. He has extensive creative thinking skills, is able to analyze and critically problem-solve, and is highly motivated to expand his knowledge in the field of mental health.
Tyler holds high emotional intelligence along with the natural ability to show empathy toward others. He presents impressive interpersonal relationship skills, such as active listening, critical thinking, and problem solving. Additionally, Tyler shows the ability to understand, and implement, objectivite measures and ethical practices while he is at my center. Even though these skills come naturally to Tyler, he is still highly motivated for further growth in an academic setting. He is driven to increase his knowledge in the field of mental health as well as develop professional counseling skills.
